When do I sign up for Medicare?


You will age into Medicare at age 65, regardless of whether or not you decide to take your retirement income benefits or wait until your full retirement age. If you do not have employer coverage you have to take Medicare or you could be subject to late enrollment penalties (LEP).

 

How do I sign up for Medicare?


You sign up for Medicare through the Social Security office. It is now easier than ever to sign up either by going online to SSA.gov or calling the Social Security office. Medicare Experts assists new to Medicare beneficiaries sign up for Medicare all the time!  You may apply as early as 3 months prior to the month of your 65th birthday. You’ll want to get this started as early as possible because sometimes the system is delayed and you want to make sure you receive your Medicare card in plenty of time before your effective date.
